VOC Screening

Volatile Organic Compound Screening

Find Out What’s in the Air You’re Breathing

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemical gases released from building materials, cleaning products, furnishings, and even everyday activities. In enclosed indoor spaces, these compounds can accumulate—especially in newer or recently renovated homes with poor ventilation.

At Full Spectrum Environmental, we offer on-site VOC screening using a photoionization detector (PID) to quickly assess Total VOC (TVOC) levels in your space. This is a smart, non-invasive way to detect chemical buildup and determine whether further action—or advanced lab testing—is needed.

What Are VOCs?

VOCs are a class of carbon-based chemicals that easily become vapors or gases. While some have strong odors, many are completely odorless. Common VOCs include formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, acetone, and xylene—but there are thousands more.

They are typically found in:

Our VOC Screening Method

We use a professional-grade PID (Photoionization Detector) to measure the Total VOC (TVOC) concentration in the indoor air in parts per million (ppm). This real-time instrument gives us immediate insight into whether chemical vapor levels are elevated—and where problem areas might be.

Why Choose a Screening Over VOC Testing?

The TO-15 Compendium method is a lab-based analytical test that identifies specific VOC compounds through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). While highly detailed, it can be expensive, time-consuming, and not always necessary—especially in early investigation stages.

That’s why we recommend PID screening first. It’s fast, affordable, and can help determine whether elevated levels justify more advanced testing.

Want TO-15 Testing Instead?

If you’re looking to identify specific chemical compounds in your air—such as formaldehyde, benzene, or other targeted VOCs—we also offer TO-15 canister testing with certified lab analysis. This advanced option is available when deeper investigation or official documentation is required.

Why VOC Testing Matters

VOCs can build up in indoor environments with limited ventilation, especially in energy-efficient homes or buildings.

Some spaces may have elevated VOCs due to:
